Philippines health officials report launching a vaccination campaign (Ligtas Tigdas) in the Metro Manila area that targets 1.2 million children from measles and rubella.
According to the Department of Health–Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD), the Ligtas Tigdas campaign aims to immunize 1,200,428 children aged 6 to 59 months across Metro Manila through a supplemental immunization activity.
The immunization drive is a critical step toward rebuilding herd immunity against vaccine-preventable diseases amid the lingering threat of measles outbreaks in several parts of the country.
According to DOH-MMCHD Regional Director Lester Tan, “Measles is not a simple disease. It can cause severe complications such as pneumonia, brain inflammation, blindness and even death, especially in unvaccinated children”.
“Through the Ligtas Tigdas campaign, we want to ensure that every Filipino child has adequate protection against this disease”.
Parents and guardians, especially those who remain hesitant, are encouraged to support the campaign for the safety of their children and the wider community.
