Philippines: Mpox case reported in Ozamiz City
The DOH-Region 10 Epidemiology Unit reported the first mpox, or monkeypox case in Northern Mindanao in an adult from Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental.
The patient is currently being treated at Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Medical Center in Ozamiz.
The strain was identified as Clade II mpox - a less severe variant than the Clade Ib strain- by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
Contact tracing is ongoing and officials advise the public to follow DOH protocols on hygiene and disinfection.
