The chikungunya epidemic continues across the island. Although the number of chikungunya-related primary care consultations is stabilizing, the number of emergency room visits is increasing. Hospitalizations are slightly decreasing.
During the past week, officials at ARS La Reunion reported 4,304 confirmed indigenous cases, bringing the total cases since the beginning of the year to 39,532.
Three additional fatalities were recorded, bringing the total to nine in people over 70 years old with comorbidities have been classified as chikungunya-related. Nine other deaths are also under investigation.
To date, the epidemic has stabilized at a high level of transmission islandwide, with disparities between the north and south.
Since week 11, 47 severe cases of chikungunya have been reported, mainly among the elderly or infants requiring intensive care.

Protect yourself against bites (mosquito nets, sprays)
Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes can lay their eggs
Consult a doctor immediately if symptoms appear (headaches with or without fever, joint or muscle pain, rashes, etc.).
If you are infected with the disease, continue to protect yourself!
