Sierra Leone's spike in mpox

According to the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health (MOH), 1603 confirmed mpox cases, including 11 deaths have been reported in most of the districts in the country through May 8.

Clade IIb has been identified as the circulating strain.

In all of Africa this year, 17 countries have reported cases in 2025. Nearly 50,000 total cases, including more than 11,000 lab confirmed cases have been reported.

399 deaths have been reported among confirmed cases.
