Sri Lanka dengue outbreak grows, a Special Dengue Prevention Week declared this week
In a follow-up on the dengue fever outbreak in Sri Lanka, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) reports the total number of cases has now risen to 42,232.
The National Dengue Control Unit states that around 600 dengue patients are being reported daily. Over 8,000 patients have been reported within the lapsed period of this month.
The dengue death toll stands at 24.
Health authorities have placed 14 high-risk districts under intense scrutiny due to a significant surge in dengue cases nationwide.
The NDCU is scaling up action with a Special Dengue Prevention Week declared this week, starting Monday and continuing through Friday, June 20.
Health officials advise the following to prevent mosquito breeding:
Turn over or cover objects that can collect water such as drums and bowls.
Drain out and scrub flower pots, vases and pot saucers when not in use.
Clean trays under refrigerators, air conditioners, and water coolers.
Properly dispose of plastic waste and discarded containers.
