The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced today the first locally acquired dengue fever case in New Taipei City.
The patient is a woman in her 60s residing in Xizhi District, New Taipei City. She developed symptoms such as dizziness and mild body aches in late October, followed by fever and muscle aches the next day, and sought medical attention at a clinic. Five days later, her symptoms persisted, and she sought medical attention again. After being reported and tested, she was diagnosed with dengue fever, and the dengue virus type 1 was detected. The patient is currently recovering at home, and all close contacts are currently asymptomatic.
The patient had no history of domestic or international travel during the incubation period, and her main activity location was her home, suggesting a locally acquired case. The source of infection is still under investigation.
The CDC explained that the domestic dengue fever outbreak is slowing down. The monitoring period for the type 2 dengue fever cluster in Taoyuan City ended on November 4. There have been no new type 2 dengue fever cases in Kaohsiung City and type 3 dengue fever clusters in Tainan City recently.
Monitoring will continue until November 7 and November 24, respectively. However, the types of dengue fever cases are different from those in New Taipei City and are not related to the aforementioned domestic outbreaks.
According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as of November 4, 2025, there have been a total of 26 confirmed local dengue fever cases, residing in Kaohsiung City (13 cases), Taoyuan City (7 cases), Tainan City (3 cases), Yilan County, Taipei City, and New Taipei City (1 case each).
There have been no severe cases or deaths. In addition, there have been a total of 221 imported cases, the third highest number for the same period in the past six years (ranging from 11 to 238 cases between 2020 and 2024). Most of these cases originated from Southeast Asian countries (89%), with Indonesia (59 cases) being the most numerous.
