In a follow-up on the suspected Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak in Tanzania, the Tanzania Ministry of Health published the following statement yesterday:

The Ministry of Health has received reports of Marburg virus in Kagera Region.
Following these reports, the Ministry has taken several immediate steps including: sending a team of experts; conducting an investigation into the matter; collecting samples and conducting laboratory tests.
To date, January 15, 2025, laboratory test results from all samples taken have not confirmed the presence of Marburg virus.
The Ministry would like to assure the public and the international community, including the World Health Organization, that it has strengthened disease surveillance systems and will continue to provide more information.
