In a follow-up on the dengue outbreak in Tonga, an island country in the South Pacific, the Ministry of Health reported 11 additional new dengue cases today, bringing the outbreak total to 99.
11 patients are currently hospitalized, including one requiring intensive care. No deaths have been reported.
The cases are distributed as follows: Vava’u (43), Tongatapu (40) and ‘Eua (16).
Officials say the outbreak is caused by Dengue Virus Type 2 (DENV-2).
