The Uganda Ministry of Health reported 150 additional mpox, or monkeypox cases in the past week or so, including three deaths from multiple districts.
Since the beginning o 2025, 1,126 lab confirmed cases and 10 deaths have been reported. Only the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reported more cases in 2025 so far in Africa (2,167 cases/102 deaths).
The mpox outbreak in Uganda began in July 2024. Since that time, 2,479 lab confirmed cases and 16 deaths have been reported from 83 of the country’s 146 districts.
Health officials say Clade 1b was isolated from all sequenced samples.
In Africa to date in 2025, a total of 12,885 cases (including 3892 laboratory confirmed) and 112 deaths have been reported from 15 of the 55 African Union Member States.
