The Uruguay Ministry of Public Health (MSP) confirmed a case of autochthonous dengue fever in Montevideo and launched a control operation in the affected area.
Public Health Minister Cristina Lustemberg said this is the first autochthonous case of the year. It is reported that the patient is doing well and recovering at home.
On Saturday, a team from the MSP, along with the Montevideo Departmental Health Director and seven technical teams, conducted a survey of nine blocks in the Reus neighborhood. No individuals with suspicious symptoms were identified.
During the event, in conjunction with the Montevideo City Hall's health department, residents were provided with information on symptoms to look out for, informational brochures were distributed, and work was done to eliminate mosquito larvae and breeding sites. Samples were also taken for analysis and identification.
