Recent data from the Department of Health- Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR) Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) reveals a significant 180% increase in Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs) cases from January 1 - March 9, compared to last year’s figures.
The total cases rose from 15 to 42, with Measles-Rubella (67%) and Pertussis (zero cases in 2023 to 18 cases in 2024 to date) showing notable increase. These diseases predominantly affect areas with high numbers of unvaccinated children, posing a serious public health concern.
Furthermore, analysis indicates that the reported cases are solely those identified within health facilities, suggesting the possibility of numerous undetected cases.
