Japanese encephalitis
The Hanoi Department of Health said that last week the city recorded the first case of Japanese encephalitis of the year.
The patient, a 12-year-old male from Phuc Tho, presented with symptoms of high fever and headache on May 31, followed up by stiff neck and unsteady walking the next day.
On June 2, the patient's family took the patient to the National Children's Hospital. Mac-Elisa's cerebrospinal fluid test showed positive results for Japanese encephalitis virus.
The patient has a history of receiving 4 doses of Japanese encephalitis vaccine (last dose on June 15, 2019).
Dengue fever
Regarding dengue fever, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) informed that from the beginning of 2024 until now, 783 cases of dengue fever have been recorded, with no deaths, the number of cases increased compared to the same period in 2023. .
Hanoi CDC said that summer weather conditions are favorable for the development of mosquitoes and disease-transmitting larvae, predicting that the number of cases may increase in the near future. Surveillance results in some old outbreak areas have high insect indexes exceeding the risk threshold.
