The Ministry of Health and Sports of Bolivia reported a confirmed yellow fever case in the city of Palos Blancos in the La Paz Department in western Bolivia.
Unfortunately, this was a fatal case. This is the first yellow fever case in Bolivia in 2025.

In recent years, epidemiological surveillance has reported six cases in 2022, five in 2023 and eight in 2024.
“During the 2025 management, a case of yellow fever was registered in the municipality of Palos Blancos, department of La Paz, a person who contracted the disease and in the following days reached a fatal outcome,” reported the Vice Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance and Traditional Medicine, Max Francisco Enríquez Nava.
Enríquez recommended that the population get vaccinated against yellow fever at least ten days before traveling to endemic areas, in order to prevent infections and avoid the spread of the disease.
"A single dose of the yellow fever vaccine provides lifelong protection. We urge all people who, for work, tourism or any other reason, travel to endemic areas, to request vaccination at least ten days in advance.”
Yellow fever is an acute viral disease transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes of the Aedes aegypti and Haemagogus species. It is endemic in tropical regions of South America (13 countries) and Africa (34 countries), and has been responsible for outbreaks with high mortality. It is estimated that between 50% and 60% of severe cases can be fatal.
