Florida reports two local dengue cases in Orange County, Travel associated Oropouche cases rise to 30
In a follow-up on the situation in Florida with arboviruses, state health officials reported two additional autochthonous, or locally transmitted dengue fever cases in the past week—both in Orange County.
This brings the state total of locally transmitted cases to 25—Hillsborough (2), Manatee, Miami-Dade (16), Monroe (3), Orange (2) and Pasco counties.
Seven out of 10 cases were serotyped as DENV-3, while DENV-1 and unknown strains account for the rest.
Concerning travel associated dengue in 2024, officials report 417 cases year to date from 32 of 67 counties in Florida.
More than one-third of the travel associated dengue (153) are linked to travel from Cuba.
In addition to dengue, officials reported 10 additional travel associated Oropouche fever cases during the past week. This brings the total to 30—Broward, Duval, Hillsborough (5), Lee (2), Miami-Dade (14), Orange (2), Palm Beach, Pasco, Polk (2), and Sarasota.
All the cases are linked to travel from Cuba.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued multiple travel advisories for countries with dengue and Oropouche outbreaks.
