In a follow-up on the chikungunya situation on the island of Mayotte, health authorities report 17 indigenous chikungunya cases through April 25.
55 total cases have been reported since the beginning of the year- 25 imported, 17 locally acquired and 13 under investigation.
One case required hospitalization and no fatalities have been recorded.
Mayotte is located in the northern part of the Mozambique Channel in the western Indian Ocean off the coast of Southeastern Africa, between the northwestern part of the island of Madagascar and northeastern Mozambique on the continent.
Mayotte is approximately 880 miles away from the island of La Reunion, which is currently experiencing a large chikungunya epidemic.
